Kankri Vantas is an Alternian troll, and a prominent character in Nightfall.
Biography[]
Kankri was first mentioned on this page as a quick one-off joke. He was then seen multiple times in Alternia palace as one of Meenah's prominent assistants. Eventually, he spotted someone impersonating Karkat Vantas taunting him and leading to the bodies of Meenah and Tavros. Kankri attempted to hold a Beforan-style court case to convict him, and upon reaching a guilty verdict, he decided that Equius was to execute Karkat. Equius chose to show mercy towards him, which gave Sollux the opportunity to get Karkat to escape.
The next time Kankri was seen, he was atop the throne with a crown on his head. He asserted himself into a position of authority and created new policies, now that Meenah was presumed dead. He gradually became more corrupt with this power, until the Shinobi contacted him with an offer.
Personality and Traits[]
Kankri is a notable advocate for social justice, "Internet tolerance", "privilege", "trigger warnings", as well as many other social issues. He also develops a certain desire for plain justice and leadership over the course of his arc. His infatuation with being politically correct doesn't correlate with having good morals or well thought out logic. His worldview is notably extreme, as seen by the "systems" he incorporated once he seized the throne on Alternia 2.0. He also is notably more extreme and ruthless compared to his canon counterpart, immediately branding his dancester as responsible for the assassination of Meenah, and viewing his execution as perfectly reasonable. He also took the throne immediately following Meenah's supposed death, not even bothering to try to find her body, believing she was dead anyway. His policies are also a twisted inversion of his counterpart, The Signless. While the Signless desired equality for all members of the hemospectrum, Kankri follows the hemospectrum completely, believing that red-blooded individuals are "naturally angry" and believing highbloods are superior, but also willing to bend its rules to make him the new ruler of Alternia 2.0.
Relationships[]
Karkat Vantas[]
Prior to the court case, Kankri regularly tried to push his ideals onto Karkat, despite Karkat's notable distaste for him and his lectures. Kanrki viewed him as his devoted follower until he was put on trial for murder.
